Howe's army landed on Long Island and that is what started the battle of Long Island . Nathan Hale , a young Connecticut officer went behind enemy lines to seize information for Washington. He was seized by the British and searched and there was no trial. He was ordered to be hanged the next day and Howe said " I only regret that I have but once life to lose for my country."
