Role and Responsibility of a Preceptor
The literature explicitly describes the role of clinical preceptor as a practitioner who has a high level of competency to facilitate and foster students’ knowledge and learning (Jref). The Department of Health (2010) accentuates that
the preceptor role is to help and empathetically support newly qualified nurses to achieve their potential and help them to be exemplary role models. Furthermore, the Department of Health stresses that preceptors are expected to share experiences and knowledge with the newly registrant and discuss practice with them, exhibit an appropriate approach in the direction of continuing learning and, last but not the least, collaborate with health corporate initiatives to advance skills and knowledge as outlined within the Knowledge and Skills Framework. (NHS Employers 2010).
