“Life in a Cambodian Rubbish dump”
These people appear to be happy because they have never felt being spoilt like many people here. We are all so spoilt rotten and so privileged that we think that something like wasting a bit of a bruised banana is okay. Well these kids who live in the dump don’t care if it’s bruised or not, if it’s something to eat and keep them alive, they’ll eat anything. 34 percent of the total population lives on less than $1 a day, that’s like 35c per day for 14h of work. Your parents probably earn $1,500 each week, maybe even more. Finding food is like having your special teddy that you sleep with since you were a little baby, it’s like a treasure to them, they’ll be lucky to find a teddy or something to play with. With the people scroungeing for food as fresh waste arrives, it’s like everyone filing into a shop to get the newest Dior bag or Jimmy Choo shoes. These womaen, men and children are always happy because they feel privileged to find something everyday, even if it’s something so little.
