Hi Canan,
Excellent example of how the lLaw of pPragnanz makes problem solving difficult. I can relate to how Gestalt psychology and the lLaw of pPragnanz made merchandising difficult for me.
In my previous retail experience, there were situations were we got new products or seasonal products that could only be merchandised in its special cardboard displays. A classic example is Halloween candies, which some of them comes in distinct shapes and packaging which makes it so hard to merchandise on the shelves. Anytime we received these items without the special display unit, the products remained in the backroom, and were not merchandised, which resulted in loss of sales.
By Gestalt Law of pPragnanz, there were times, I merchandised this items on the shelves, but due to its distinct shapes, they were not easily visible to customers, and most of the time contributed to our shrink loss, as a result of products going bad.
I later came up with a restructured solution which resulted in an “aha” experience, by installing a cross bar pusher on the shelves for these items with distinct shapes and packages. These cross bar pushers improved the product visibility, reduce shrinkage from spoilage and overall increased sales.
