Like Cullington, I consider myself an avid texter,. hHowever, I use abbreviations and emoji’s in most of my daily texting and emailing. I do feel that if I were to write a formal letter, I would not use textspeak, and if I did, I would correct it. Being curious, I posted a question on social media, asking: Does texting affect your writing skills? Why or why not? I received 24 responses from a variety of people. Most believed that it has affected the writing skills of the younger generation (25 years &old and younger) more than the older generation because, social media, messaging, and texting did not revolve around our lives in the past like it does today. In addition, they felt that for those with a strong foundation in English and grammar, it did not affect their writing, which supports Cullington's argument. I think using personal methods gives some support and adds experience, but then again, it depends on whom you ask.
