The Jagiellonian University is the oldest university in Poland, but also one of the oldest in the world. Established on May 12, 1364, it bears the motto Plus ratio quam vis (More(Reason [means] reasonmore than strength).

At first, it was a very often visited university because it was one of the few located in Europe. However, thanksThanks to Władysław II Jagiełło and Jadwiga of Anjou, it was renovated. It was then rebuilt, following the model of the University of Paris.

There are about 3.4 thousand scientific employees, about 41 thousand students inenrolled full-time, extramural,with evening, postgraduate and extramural studies. (the(The person who passed the entrance examination to the university, however, was not admitted due to the lack of placesseats, but obtained the permission offrom the university authorities to participate in classes.)
