The Candida isolated in the period (2001-April2018) at HUSM, Malaysia, were predominated bypredominately non-albicans Candida species. C. parapsilosis, which was the most common species isolated from blood samples. However, a shift towards isolation of non-albicans Candida was observed. Further studies are needed to determine the change in the pattern of antifungal susceptibility in our hospital, as it is very important to guide the clinicians onin the empirical treatment of candidiasis. Accurate epidemiology of invasive Candida infections is important to support institutional, national and regional guidelines for the empirical treatment of suspected infection. This study emphasizes the importance of monitoring local epidemiologic data and recognizing the important potential of such information to impact empiric antifungal therapy.
