Before we get started, we have to understand what states are and their functions. A state is an organization that has several political functions and tasks. They include providing security, extracting revenues, forming rules for resolving disputes, and allocating resources within the boundaries of the territory in which it exercises jurisdiction. The state consists of government offices, which have the tasks of providing the ultimate, primary, security, extraction processes, and rulemaking within a territory. States have important functions in the United States: they plan and pay for most roads, run public schools, provide water, organize police, fire services, establish zoning regulations, license professions, and arrange elections for their citizens (States and Nations: Interactions). Knowing what states and their functions isare, let me explain what I think states came from.
